Glossary

Aura

  • Subtle biomagnetic sheath that surrounds the physical body, providing protective zone
  • extends 18 inches to 3 feet from the body
  • contains information about person's physical, mental, emotional and spiritual state of being

Chakra

  • spinning vortex of subtle energy
  • comes from sanskrit word "chakram" which means "wheel" because these centres appear to clairvoyant and yogis as whirling disks of light
  • system of subtle energy channels and centres is the basis for the Meridians and energy points used in acupuncture, yoga and energy healing
  • 8 main chakras located in a line aligned with the spine
  • these centres connect the energy of the physical body with that of the subtle body
  • when the chakras are functioning properly, the body's physical and subtle energies are in balance and harmony
  • malfunctions can lead to physical, mental, emotional, spiritual disturbances
  • chakras can be healed by interaction between the vibrations of the crystals and the energies of the body's biomagnetic or subtle energy

Electromagnetic Smog

  • subtle but detectable electromagnetic field that can have adverse effect on sensitive people
  • given off by electrical power lines, computers, cellphones, tv

Geopathic Stress

  • created by subtle emanations and energy disturbances from underground water, powerlines, negative earth energy (ley lines)

Gridding

  • placing of crystals around a building, person, room for protection or enhancement of energies

Grounding

  • creating a sound connection between oneself and the Earth that allows excess and out-of-balance energies to flow from the body

Homeopathy

  • system of healing, first practiced by Greek physician Hippcrates
  • stimulates body's healing power by introducing minute, diluted amounts of a substance that can cause the symptoms of a particular illness or disease
  • German doctor Samuel Hahnemann, modern founder of homeopathy

Inner Child

  • part of the personality that remains childlike and innocent
  • can be the repository of abuse/trauma and require healing

Kirlian Camera

  • Russian invention, takes photographs of aura surrounding the body

Ley Lines

  • subtle energy lines, straight or spiral, that connect ancient sites or prominent points in the landscape

Meridian

  • in Chinese medicine, a subtle energy channel that runs close to the surface of the skin and contains acupressure points

Miasm

  • subtle imprint of an infectious dis-ease from the past, such as TB or syphilis, that has been passed down through a family or place

Negative Emotional Programming

  • "oughts" and "shoulds"along with guilt that are instilled in childhood or past life and remain in the subconsious to influence present behaviour
  • they sabotage efforts to evolve unless released or reprogrammed

Pranic Energy

  • energy that permeates everything
  • particularly useful in healing work as it revitalises and reenergises
  • from Sanskrit word "prana", meaning "breath"

Psychic Attack

  • direction of malevolent thoughts/feelings toward another person, whether consciously or unconsciously
  • can create illness/disruption in that person's life

Psychic Vampirism

  • ability to draw or "feed off" the energy of others

Qi

  • life force that energises the physical and subtle bodies

Radionics

  • method of diagnosis and treatment at a distance, using specially designed instruments
  • based on premise that all dis-ease is a distortion of the electromagnetic field surrounding the body

Reframing

  • Returning to see a past event in a different light so that the situation it is creating in the present life can be healed

Reiki

  • natural, hands-on healing technique that feels like a flow of high frequency of energy transmitted to the patient through the hands of the practitioner.
  • comes from "rei" meaning "a supernatural force/spiritual intelligence" and "ki" meaning "qi"

Scrying

  • discerning images in a crystal that reveal the future or the secrets of the past/present

Sick-building syndrome

  • symptoms including headaches, dizziness, nausea, chest problems, general fatigue
  • associated with buildings with actual air pollution, inadquate ventilation, negative environmental energies

Smudging

  • purification used by Native Americans
  • for preparation of oneself and one's sacred place for spiritual practice
  • involves wafting about the smoke of slowburning herbs
